Cameron’s transformative journey began when he was recommended by a friend who had found support at Youth Projects, later joining the Transition to Work (TTW) program. Facing homelessness and family struggles, he received swift crisis housing and support while working towards securing a stable living situation.

As part of the holistic support available for young people at Youth Projects, the team linked Cameron with our Transition to Work team to identify his goals and aspirations for jobs or training when he was ready to.

Through tailored support and training, TTW facilitates life-changing opportunities for unemployed young people aged 15 to 25, enabling them to develop the skills, attitudes, and behaviours essential for gaining and maintaining employment. The program also assists participants in exploring local job prospects and connecting with relevant community services in their area.

Cameron’s optimism, openness, and enthusiasm shone brightly and within a short time, he landed a full-time job (and shortly after got a promotion!), demonstrating an exceptional work ethic and unwavering determination despite the challenges he faced.

A few months later, Cameron was unfortunately laid off due to overstaffing, but he remained undeterred and re-evaluated his situation – what he wanted and what he enjoyed doing. Cameron is a real people person and decided he wanted to pursue a career in hospitality, specifically front-of-housework in high-end cafes, hotels, or bars.

Cameron eagerly took up and completed an RSA training at Complete Hospitality Training within two days of chatting to his Youth Coach. Soon after that, he was successful for the Accommodation Association program and committed to a Certificate 4 in Hospitality while continuing the training program on the side.

The Accommodation Association provided the flexibility Cameron needed, enabling them to balance training with studies while eagerly anticipating a promising match with an employer through our Transition to Work program.

Cameron’s story serves as a powerful testament to resilience, perseverance, and the unwavering determination to succeed, regardless of life's challenges. Witnessing the growth in his self-esteem, self-determination, and independence fills us all with immense pride – and will see Cameron set himself up for a positive future.
