LGBTIQA+ and Gender Diverse Inclusion

Youth Projects is committed to providing services that are safe, inclusive and responsive to all people, regardless of gender, sexuality, culture or background. This commitment is reflected in how we design programs, deliver services, and engage with community.

LGBTIQA+ and Gender Diverse Inclusion

We stand with LGBTIQA+ people and are dedicated to providing support that is free from discrimination, grounded in dignity, and responsive to individual needs.

Across the organisation, this is reflected through:

  • Dedicated programs such as QPOP (Queer Psychosocial Outreach Program), providing tailored outreach and psychosocial support for LGBTIQA+ young people in Melbourne’s west

  • Safe, youth-designed affirming service environments where young people can express their identity without fear of judgement

  • Staff training and capability development to ensure inclusive practice across all programs, including correct use of language, pronouns and identity-affirming approaches

  • Active partnerships with LGBTIQA+ organisations to strengthen service quality and connection pathways

  • Inclusion of LGBTIQA+ voices through our Youth Advisory Group engagement and co-design of programs, hubs and services.

  • Commitment to achieving the Rainbow Tick, a national accreditation framework that supports organisations to deliver safe and inclusive services for LGBTIQA+ communities, including continuous review of policies, environments and practice.

We recognise that LGBTIQA+ young people often face higher levels of social isolation, mental health challenges, and barriers to employment and housing. Our approach focuses on practical support, connection, and long-term pathways.
