John's Story

At Youth Projects, we believe that with the right support and a whole lot of determination, young people can achieve incredible things. This is exactly what Melton’s own John has proven. After leaving school early, he found himself unsure of what direction to take in life. But everything changed when he connected with his Youth Coach, Maria.

A New Beginning with Support

John’s journey with Youth Projects started with a conversation about his future. Together with Maria our Transition to Work Youth Coach, John worked on redeveloping his resume, honing his job application skills, and exploring different career pathways. After several discussions and a lot of self-reflection, John discovered his passion for the trades, particularly plumbing.

Unlocking Opportunities

With a newfound career focus, Maria went above and beyond to help him secure an interview with a local plumbing employer. Armed with the skills and confidence gained through his coaching sessions, John impressed his prospective boss and landed a plumbing apprenticeship an opportunity that would set him on the path to success.

But our support didn’t stop there. At Youth Projects, we understand that starting a new job requires the right tools. We helped John obtain the essential work gear he needed, including work boots and personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring he was ready to hit the ground running.

Thriving in His Apprenticeship

Today, John is thriving in his apprenticeship. Not only is he learning the ins and outs of the plumbing trade, but he’s also building a future full of opportunities. He’s gaining valuable skills, earning an income, and most importantly, he’s feeling confident in his ability to shape his future.

John’s journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when young people are given the guidance and resources they need to succeed. His story proves that, with the right support, anything is possible.
