Youth4Jobs

Youth4Jobs is a specialised, tailored service for vulnerable young people and employers in Melbourne's western regions. Our model is simple, yet effective: ENGAGE, PREPARE, PLACE, SUSTAIN.

This agile, mobile outreach service will support young people in Melbourne's west to develop stronger work and life skills, reduce job drop-out, and promote independence and resilience in sustaining future work with up to 30-weeks post-placement support.

Youth4Jobs will be delivered across Melton, Brimbank and Wyndham, which experience the highest concentrations of youth unemployment Youth Projects has seen in some time. The rate of young people not currently studying or working hovers around 14.2%, compared with 11.2% state-wide, and there is a growing need for youth-specialist programs to re-engage and support young people.

The mobile outreach team will hit the road from July 2021 and will include intensive supports for CALD, refugee and ATSI jobseekers, as well as targeting employers in skill shortage areas to create new jobs.

What's it about?

Our wrap around model ensures the young person is not only ready for work but will sustain work by providing:

  • Driving higher engagement through a fully mobile service who will actively seek out the most vulnerable young people who need us most
  • Targeted brief interventions ensuring young people not only find work but sustain it
  • A mobile team who can connect with young people where they are at, getting around the fragmented nature of the public transport system
  • A strengthens-based approach to support for young people
  • Training to meet local demands and create pathways into major employing industries
  • Employer/industry collaborations to increase youth confidence when interacting with employers - a critical component of work preparation and linkages to real job outcomes
