About the Role 

We are on the hunt for a vibrant Team Leader to join our ever-growing cafe team at The Little Social on a full time, 12-month contract. The Cafe Team Leader will be primarily based at The Little Social inside The Alfred Hospital (Prahran) and work closely with our Social Enterprise Leader to be the central point of contact for oversight of day-to-day operations. 

The ideal person will take a leadership role within our busiest cafe location whilst co-ordinating and inspiring our cafe team to deliver the highest levels of customer and hospitality service. You will supervise and provide hands-on mentoring, support and guidance to the team, and take the lead on stock management, rostering and nurturing customer retention.

A day in the life...

Cafe management

  • Produce consistent and fast paced coffee (10-12 kgs a day)
  • Achievement of daily sales targets
  • Undertake tasks relating to the day-to-day operations of the social enterprise café
  • Actively work with and engage with strategic partners to improve our offerings and overall social enterprise site
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with social enterprise operating procedures, food safety and handling
  • Manage stock (including relationships with suppliers)
  • Develop and implement initiatives to increase sales
  • Undertake tasks relating to the day-to-day operations of the social enterprise café

Customer service

  • Build, develop and maintain strong relationships with customers
  • Use data and evidence to improve and enhance customer experience

People supervision

  • Lead team to deliver excellent customer service
  • Provide mentoring and support to social enterprise trainees
  • Operate as a unified team member of YP employment, training and social enterprise department

Key selection criteria

  • Experience in managing or coordinating service delivery in a high output hospitality setting
  • 3+ years Hospitality and/or Barista experience
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Team-first approach
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, inclusive of all people and all abilities
  • Proven ability to meet targets
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously


  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (nice to have)
  • Valid Passport/Australian Working Rights
  • Police Check
  • Working with children’s check
  • Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate
