Based on our conversations and the information you provided to Centrelink, we feel that you are 100% ready to move straight into employment! Congrats on being one of our Job Ready service users.

Your mutual obligations (those things you have to do to keep your Centrelink payment) are re-starting on 09 June which means you are required to engage in 25 hours per week of activity to move you back into employment.

What are my requirements, we hear you say?

These are listed in your job plan. They can change regularly to give you the best chance of moving into employment or study and to meet your required 25 hours. Yours will include, but are not limited to:

1. Fortnightly job searches

  • You will need to apply for 10 jobs each fortnight - your first job search needs to be submitted Friday 26 June
  • Use our JobsSearch Guide
  • Submit your fortnightly job search efforts via your unique Google Docs link (watch how!)
  • One of our Youth Coaches will review this fortnightly, give you feedback and suggestions around improving/targeting your job search
  • If you’re struggling to find enough jobs to apply for, get in touch with us. There are lots of industries you can move into – you may just need to think about your transferable skills!

PS. Submitting your job searches on a fortnightly basis counts as your appointment!

2. Attend a STRIKE group each month

  • You are required to attend a virtual STRIKE group once a month.
  • Your group will be assigned over the coming weeks, and we will update your job plan accordingly
  • In STRIKE you will be reverse marketed into opportunities with employers. Employers can also join these sessions on a regular basis.

What will Youth Projects do?

  • We will be working with you (and employers) to help find the right employment opportunities for you. As one of our most job ready service users, you will have priority access to employment opportunities as they arise.
  • We will send you weekly emails with vacancies and opportunities (please read these and follow instructions on how to apply). If you apply for any of these, make sure you list them on your fortnightly job search record!
  • We will call you/text you directly if we have an immediate start vacancy
  • We may identify training, short courses or work experience opportunities (like in our awesome social enterprise cafe) that could be beneficial to you securing a job (we will talk to you about this and update your job plan accordingly)

Fast-track your chances

  1. Register with Working for Victoria and the Jobs Hub
  2. Read more about how to find work and in-demand jobs during COVID-19
  3. Check out what jobs are in demand now and in the future (read here)
  4. Visit SkillsMatch to identify the skills you have built in past jobs and how you can use these skills in areas that might be in demand at the moment.

Waiting for your job to re-start?

We are aware that a few of you are waiting for your jobs to commence again, post-COVID craziness. If you’ve spoken to someone over the phone already, they would have recorded these details. If you haven’t, please contact us to let us know! If you're unsure, contact us so we can guide you through your requirements.

What happens when you get an interview?

Give us a call (or text) to let us know and one of our Youth Coaches will help you prepare and practice (that's what we are here for!) In the meantime, check out this video on pointers and tips to boss'ing your interview.

Once you start working or studying

Firstly, YAY! Young people getting into work is our favourite thing, like, EVER. But we need you to let us know!

  1. Complete this form so we can update your job plan, tell you how we’ll help moving forward and, most importantly, congratulate you!
  2. Tell Centrelink / Services Australia by following this link
  3. Read through our Post Placement check list and let us know what we can provide or how can help you in your new job - we will still be here to support you on an ongoing basis! For example, we may be able to hook you up with workwear, course costs, getting tickets etc.

Rules of engagement!

We have a 3 Strike Rule which means that if you do not engage with everything we've outlined above and whatever is outlined your job plan then we'll give you three chances. After that? We will exit you to JobActive. JobActive are a generalist employment service who will suspend your payments, put you in work-for-the-dole activities and are not youth-focused, at all (trust us when we say you'll want to stay with Youth Projects!)

Feel like you’re classified wrongly…?

Contact us and let us know! We want the support we offer to work for you, and your employment/education goals. We do offer more intensive coaching and one on one support to some clients, so contact us on the details above to discuss this with us 😊

You can reach us directly via text or call on 0499 799 262 or email us at [email protected]

We pride ourselves on individualized support, but due to a huge (and we mean HUGE) influx of young people needing jobs through our programs we've had to do things a little differently. If you'd like to share some feedback (good and bad!) please email us.
