About the Role

We are on the hunt for a dynamic cafe all rounder to join our new social enterprise team on a casual basis. Our Café All-Rounder’s are critical for our cafés, ensuring that the highest standards of customer service is provided and that our cause is at the centre of everything that we do. Working under the guidance of our Youth Enterprise Co-ordinator, your role is to support us to build an impactful social enterprise business along with mentoring and providing hands-on training for at-risk young people to set them on a path to sustainable employment.

You will be joining a brand new team at our brand new social enterprise cafe opening at The Alfred Hospital in 2020! Our new social enterprise cafe is be a bespoke coffee bar that brews the finest espresso, serves nutritious food and empowers young people to lead meaningful lives by providing hands-on skills development and mentoring from industry experts. Each young person will have a platform to build self confidence, gain key employability skills and genuine work experience in a supportive and judgement free environment. 

What you'll bring:

  • 1+ year Hospitality and Barista experience
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment in a variety of different cafe duties
  • Exceptional customer service, communication skills and a genuine care for your customers
  • High quality espresso and coffee art skills
  • Passion for social change and mentoring disadvantaged young people to help their success (youth or social work desirable)
  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously
  • Availability to work rotating shifts

    Must Have’s

    • Current Food Handlers Certificate (desirable)
    • Valid Passport/Australian Working Rights

    Youth Projects is an Australian-based independent, registered charity who recognise the complex and varying needs of our clients and offer a holistic model of care and provide pathways into our award winning employment, education and social enterprise programs. Located at two sites (Hosier Lane and the vibrant, northern region of Melbourne) Youth Projects provides front line support to individuals experiencing disadvantage, unemployment, homelessness, alcohol and other drug issues and young people looking to re-engage with learning and employment. Our mission is to provide high impact support, no judgement, full stop.
