NON-PROFIT welfare agency Youth Projects marked the 11th annual Overdose Awareness Day with a special tribute at their city office late last month.

Flowers were laid down Hosier Lane where an open microphone session was also held to give those affected by overdose the chance to mourne their lost loved ones.

According to Youth Projects chairperson Melanie Raymond one Australian dies from opioid overdose every day with an even higher number due to overdose from other drugs.

Based in Glenroy, Youth Projects is an independent organisation that was establised in 1984 in order to help Melbourne's disadvantaged and address the high level of youth unemployment in the North which now stands at 54 per cent, the highest in the country according to the organisation.

Youth Projects offer a range of services from health, outreach, community and employment to education and training for the disadvantaged, the unemployed, the homeless and those with alcohol and/or drug issues.
