Reaching out is hard - The Age 3/9

THE AFL is correct to place an individual player's need for privacy, trust and support above the uncertain approaches of differing football clubs to those facing personal problems.

Reaching out to seek help and successful treatment can be very difficult. Fear of exposure, judgment and exclusion will always present barriers to recovery no matter who you are.

Critical elements in recovery include access to non-judgmental support services and, hopefully, homes, families, friends and jobs to return to. But for many thousands of people with the same problems, this is not the case. And no one is worrying about their future.
