Club does the job for those seeking employment - Hume Leader

HUME'S unemployed residents are getting their foot in the door with potential employers thanks to a free work skills program called Job Club.

Hume City Council and Youth Projects Employment Services offer the program in fortnightly sessions for job seekers aged 15 and over.

The Job Club program was developed to offer support and training in job search techniques, resume and cover-letter writing and interview skills.

Librarian Wendy Byron said council librarians had seen a growing need among young people for help in applying for employment.

Job seekers encouraged to access the club include people re-entering the workforce - such as mothers returning to work, school leavers, the elderly and newcomers to the area.

Ms Byron said the program was succeeding in getting people back into education, training and employment.

She said the council hoped to extend it to other library branches or target specific age groups in future.

Job Club is free, but people are asked to book.

The club runs every second Thursday, 9.30am-11.30am, at 1093 Pascoe Vale Rd, Broadmeadows.

Call 9356 6900 to book.
